Sneakers as design objects were represented in MoMA’s 2017–2018 exhibition Items: Is Fashion Modern? which featured 111 items of clothing and accessories that have had a strong impact on the world in the 20th and 21st centuries. The exhibition illustrated the power fashion has to create and express relationships about culture, functionality and identity.

To celebrate the Musem’s newly expanded reopening one year ago, MoMA and Vans launched a limited edition of Vans Era sneakers, featured with a special coloured checkered pattern, sold as a MoMA exclusive.

One year later, Vans and The Museum of Modern Art collaborate again on a broad footwear and apparel collection, sharing a passion for inspiring creative expression and individuality around the world, and highlighting works by celebrated artists from MoMA’s collection.

Salvador Dalì’s Persistence of Memory, Vasily Kandinski’s Orange and Claude Monet’s Numphéas are the three masterpieces guarded at MoMA that Vans has used on a broad collection including sneakers and apparel for adults and kids.

Besides the three artists’ collection, Vans adds a new Vans x MoMA collection, with the signature checkered pattenr interpreted with new colours.
